Tzeporah Berman, a former organizer with Greenpeace and one of the founders of ForestEthics. The woman BC Premier Glen Clark once called an “enemy of the state” has been on the frontlines of the Canadian environmental movement for over a decade. In 2007 she became a rock star achieving Suzukisque status when she was chosen as one of the featured players in Leonardo Di Caprio’s cinematic plea to save the planet, The 11th Hour. Her latest venture, PowerUpCanada http://www.powerupcanada.ca, aims to make Canada carbon neutral using the power of markets, strong laws, investments and international agreements.

Ms. Berman will speak at a Forum on “Building a Green Economy in Hard Times: Why the Green Energy Backlash in BC" with others from the Forum’s Corridor Environment Network. The Forum is open to all for a $10 donation at the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre’s Istken Hall on Thursday April 9 from 7 to 9 pm.

A new kind of environment hero, Tzeporah Berman has produced sustainable change on a massive scale. Berman is the co-founder of Forest Ethics, a non-profit that publicly pressures and partners with corporations, like Home Depot and Staples, to save endangered forests (12 million acres and counting). Her impressive feat—using corporate power to protect the planet—has created a bold new model for environmental advocacy.

And reflecting on all that happened in 2008 - what about this “change we can believe in?”

A lot of the changes lately have been for the worse given the financial meltdown and for those who Stephen Colbert...

A new minority government is elected in Canada in October. A new President and Congress will have just been elected in the US. What does this mean for Canada in an increasingly uncertain and multipolar world? What is our position and place internationally? Where in the world are we going? The Forum’s Graham Fuller, CIGI’s Paul Heinbecker and Canada’s World Shauna Sylvester will lead in these roundtable dialogues.

You are invited to join participants from policy centres and universities, from governments, businesses and non profit groups, from the US, China and Canada for these roundtable sessions. Together we will explore key questions about Canada’s role in the world and advance the foreign policy agenda for Canada in the 21st Century.
