Participation in Monthly Executive Seminars and Public Forums
As in the past six years, the Leadership Sea to Sky Cohort with 14 to 17 participants will meet monthly to learn from presented material, guest speakers and each other in interactive seminar sessions. This year the monthly sessions will normally be the first Thursday of each month beginning October 7. We begin at 1 pm for an afternoon seminar session with an invited guest speaker, have dinner together and then participate in an evening public forum at which the speaker will present on the Leadership That's Built To Last theme.
Commitment to work on a Community Project
In order to put into practice what is learned from others, each participant will work in a team of three or four on the scoping out and delivering of a community project in the Sea to Sky. Projects this year can be developed in the following subject areas:
- Building on the Intergenerational Mentorship Initiative from 2009/10
- Enhancing the Processes and Outcomes of Official Community (Long-term) Plans
- Supporting the Olympic Legacies Society
- Feasibility Study for an annual Marathon Race in the Sea to Sky
- Assisting in a Canada-China Five Year Corporate Social Responsibility Plan
Two Final Assignments by June 2011
Participants will keep a notebook/journal of their learnings throughout the year. As part of this they will also each choose a well known long-term leader and present a case study of that person describing their values, skills and disciplines.
And as begun in Cohort VI, each participant will be required to present a seven minute speech to MLA Joan McIntyre and their peers on their long term vision for the future of the Sea to Sky.
